Archives at Central Library in Manchester

I’m adding this information as I received an enquiry whether I had a copy of a report that was mentioned in one of the chapters. So I thought I would add information here in case anyone else has a similar request.

Kath Fry’s Archive papers

As you may have gathered this is my mum’s story. When Kath was ill, she sorted all of her council papers into date order in box files and after she died I took them to the Records Office. It was a very large pile and I didn’t go through exactly what was in there.

The catalogue listing on Greater Manchester Lives for the papers that were deposited is here: http://gmlives.org.uk/results.html#imu[rid=ecatalogue.332143]

I’ve not yet tried to access anything in that catalogue, but I have checked the instructions to do so. The documents are classed as an ‘unpublished archive’ and so to access them you have to book in advance. These are the instructions how to do so: http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200062/libraries/6336/see_archives_rare_books_and_special_collections

Information about the access to the Archives at Central Library are here: http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_history/522/access_arrangements

The Collection is divided into three Sections:

  • Heaton Park Regeneration Papers and Records
  • Education Papers
  • Manchester City Labour Party Papers

Below is an extract of the summaries from the catalogue document that I received from the Record Office. The full document can be viewed as a PDF here. The reference numbers will help you find the documents.
